The Terre Haute South Band program allows students to perform in different ensembles and competitions. There are 150+ students in our program. We offer the following ensembles and groups for students to be a part of:
Concert Band:We offer Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble which are audition based. Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Mr. Tim Murphy and the Symphonic Band is under the direction of Mr. Todd Norris. The symphonic band is to prepare students for Wind Ensemble to play more challenging music. Each group has had superior ratings at ISSMA contest.
Marching Band: The Pride of South competes every year in the fall from September to November performing in ISSMA and BOA events. They also perform at football games and local parades in Terre Haute. The Pride of South is open to anyone who is enrolled in a band class and plays a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument, as well as guard members. (Guard members do not need to be enrolled in band)
Winter Guard: The winter guard season goes from November all the way to April! They compete in IHSCGA and WGI competitions all across Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. There is a Varsity and a JV guard that are audition based and are open to anyone willing to work and learn difficult routines. The Varsity guard is the 2016 Class A IHSCGA Champion.
Indoor Percussion: The indoor percussion season starts off with auditions in November and finishes in March at IPA State Finals. This group is open to anyone who is enrolled in a band class and has experience reading music, marching and playing multiple percussion parts. The indoor percussion is an 8-time state finalist.
Jazz Band: The jazz band starts in November with auditions and goes through early Spring. The jazz band receives multiple awards for their soloists and ensemble playing at contests around Indiana. They rehearse after school under the direction of Mr. Eric Schatz.
Pep Band: The pep band is a fun and exciting group that plays at home games for basketball season! We play a mixture of oldies and popular tunes to keep the crowd energized and cheer on our teams to victory! To join, all you have to do is sign up in November for your instrument and be enrolled in a band class.
