I
Without the following fund raising events, the band program here at South Vigo High School just would not be able to function. The Corporation does provide funds for the band, but these barely begin to approach what we actually need to thrive. Parent involvement in these events is crucial. We have tried to choose the kind of activities that give us the greatest retum of money for time involved. However, we are always open to new ideas.
This is our first major fundraiser of the "band year". We have a tent at the Banks of the Wabash Festival at Fairbanks Park that runs from May 26thto June 6th this year. We will be asking for volunteers at our April and May Booster meetings to set-up, staff, and tear-down. This event raises from $5-6,000 for our program. Set up
is on Wednesday, May 26thand tear down is on Sunday, June 6th.
In September, we provide the staff for the organization "Incredible Events". Union Hospital hires this organization each year for their employee picnic. This takes place at ISU Memorial Stadium. Parents and students will be needed on Friday evening and most of the day on Saturday to work the food lines and run the games and tear down. All marching members (students) are required to work this event.
In the fall prior to a home football game our Pork Chop Supper is held at the South cafeteria. Tickets will be distributed to the kids for advance sale. We need parents to provide the desserts, scrub and wrap potatoes, collect tickets, staff the serving lines, bus tables and clean-up afterward. This year we may add a silent auction and raffle!
The money raised from fund raisers and fees goes into one general account. This account helps pay the mounting expenses of being a marching band. This includes upkeep of the uniforms, uniform replacement, equipment purchase, rentai trucks and fuel, instructional staff, show design and travel expenses. When big trips are planned, a percentage of money earned from fundraisers will go into a separate account to help pay for trip expenses. Your child can help earn their way to Florida, for example. A percentage of fundraisers will also be put into a scholarship fund. This scholarship is available to people who need help paying their band fees. |
